Fabrication of High Temperature Resistant Carbon Fiber

Carbon fiber is widely used in military, aerospace, construction, transportation and other fields because of its low density, high specific modulus, high specific strength, excellent mechanical properties and chemical stability.

 

Carbon fiber has a high potential application value in the field of stealth and high temperature areas. However, since carbon fiber itself is a strong reflection of radar waves, and starts oxidation at about 400 ° C under aerobic conditions, its application is greatly limited.

 

Fabricating h-BN coating on the surface carbon fiber can improve the performance of carbon fiber itself, and change its insulation and oxidation resistance. With h-BN coating, carbon fiber can be used to the field of stealth and high temperature areas.

 

There are two methods for making h-BN coatings. First, the h-BN coated carbon fiber was made by impregnation method with nitrogen precursor. Make precursor solution containing nitrogen with urea and boric acid; add ammonia during the heat treatment.

 

Second, the h-BN coated carbon fiber was made by macromolecule precursor impregnation method. Prepare polymer precursors with polyvinyl alcohol and boric acid; add ammonia during the heat treatment.
