Here we’d like to introduce the development process of a large-size artificial graphite crucible for the smelting of rare earth and polycrystalline silicon, including the selection of raw materials, and the determination of technological formula and parameters. We also compare the performance between the newly developed graphite crucible and traditional ones, and then analyze the main factors in the performance of graphite crucibles. The durability of the newly developed graphite crucible can meet customer demands in application, shows a fine market prospect.
By the way, we also studied the effects of composing of impregnants and dipping technics on oxidation resistance capability of graphite crucible sample. Meanwhile, we’ll also discuss its functionary mechanism in detail. The results showed that graphite crucible samples which were dipped by acid phosphate aluminium whose ratio of Al to P is 1/2 achieved relatively good oxidation resistance capability after heat treating. Temperature of impregnant and sample should be about 90℃ in dipping process. The oxidation resistance reason of samples which were dipped by acid phosphate aluminium lies in that [ Al(PO3)3]n covering and close-grainedly filling in samples under 1000℃, while over 1000℃ it lies in the decomposed AlPO4.
On the other sides, we analyzed the reason of the cracking of graphite crucible. With knowing about the limit height by theoretical calculation, we also could have rules to follow for the production operation procedure. The result shows that the cracking of graphite crucible starts from the internal wall. We could calculate the ultimate stress of the graphite crucible internal wall before applying the weights.
