Development Status and Problems of Carbon Fiber Core Technology

In this article, we’ll briefly introduce the characteristics, application prospects and current industrial development status of large tow carbon fiber. We will also analyzed the problems in the actual production and application of large tow carbon fibers and the related solutions. The fact is that large tow carbon fibers had high performance-price ratio because of using low-cost civil polyacrylonitrile filament as precursor and possessed broad demand prospects because of their wide application in the fields of leisure sports goods, infrastructure, industrial applications and other fields. Mainly production of carbon fibers in China is still small tow carbon fibers. And the application of China-made large tow carbon fibers still needs technological breakthrough in yarn spreading process and soaking effect. And the development of large tow carbon fibers should start with the production standards for large tow carbon fibers, the innovation of yarn spreading equipment, the improvement of the viscosity of impregnated resin system and the compatibility of large tow carbon fibers to improve product quality in the future.

 

In recent years, the fiber material, including carbon fibers, has become one of the world's fastest growing and most active scientific and technological fields. In 2018, Chinese chemical fiber output reached 50 million tons, accounting for more than 70% of the world's chemical fiber. The research level of the new fiber material, especially high-tech fiber, has made great progress.

 

Our key deployment project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences-the preparation of T1000 ultra-high strength carbon fiber has adopted the expert acceptance organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences on February 26, 2019. Our team successfully broke through the core technology of T1000 super carbon fiber, and took the lead in developing high strength hollow polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber in China. The T1000 grade ultra-high strength carbon fiber has the characteristics of high tensile strength and high elastic modulus. And the properties of the T1000 grade ultra-high strength carbon fiber have reached the advanced level in the industry after being tested by the third party organization.
