As impregnated graphite sealing material is famous for good sealing performance, low leakage and other advantages, it has been widely used in various industries in society in recent years. Then various impregnated graphite materials was studied and analyzed. It’s found that the use of inorganic impregnation technology to impregnate graphite materials is more suitable for the production of general mechanical seals.
Many different size pore will be formed in the cold isostatic pressing graphite product after roasting. The product needs to be impregnated to improve strength and matrix compactness. We discuss and study the main technological factors affecting impregnation effect. It shows that the optimum impregnation process parameters are 220℃, 0.9 MPa and 60 min. Comparing the test under the same experimental factors, the volume density of the product will increase with the increase of the number of impregnation, but the extent of the increase decreases gradually. The product’s volume density can be increased to 1.79g/cm³ by five baking and four impregnation.
The frictional properties of graphite sealing materials under dry friction have a great impact in the sealing performance and decide the service life of mechanical seal. The experiment results show that the friction coefficient of impregnated alloy carbon graphite M120B, impregnated epoxy carbon graphite M120H, impregnated antimony carbon graphite M120D, impregnated resin carbon graphite M120K and carbide YG6 pairs increase with the increase of the speed, decrease with the increase of load and the reduction of vacuum, change little with in various temperature. The friction coefficient of M120 and YG6 pairs in atmosphere is bigger than in high vacuum.
