With the continuous development of technology, ordinary high-carbon graphite products can no longer meet the requirements of various industries, so it is necessary to further improve the purity of graphite.
The main purification methods of graphite are floatation method, alkali acid method, hydrofluoric acid method, chlorination roasting method and high temperature purification method. Their basic principles, technological conditions, research progress and their application in practical production are systematically described. We also compare the advantages and disadvantages of these methods. We finally came up with an improved alkali acid method. Alkali acid method can also be said to be the best method for industrial purification of graphite.
According to the crystallization degree of natural graphite, it can be divided into crystal graphite (flake) and cryptic graphite (soil). The crystal graphite ore is characterized by low grade. The fixed carbon content of crystalline graphite generally is lower than 10%. The fixed carbon of crystal graphite in the specially enriched area can reach 20% or more. However, the flake graphite ore has good floatability and the grade of flotation concentrate can reach more than 85%. Crystal graphite is one of the best floatable ores in nature. The grade of cryptic graphite is high. And its fixed carbon content is about 60~80%. And the highest fixed carbon is 95%. However, the floatability of cryptic graphite ore is poor.
