There are soft spots on the surface of graphite mold after heat treatment, which will affect the wear resistance of graphite mold and reduce the service life of graphite mold.

(I) Causes

1)There are oxidation scale, rust spot and local decarbonization on the surface of graphite mould before heat treatment.

2)After quenching and heating of graphite mould, the quenching and cooling medium is improperly selected. There is too much impurity in the quenching medium or the quenching cooling medium is aged.

(2)Preventive Measures

1) The oxidation skin and rust spot should be removed before heat treatment of graphite mould. The surface of the graphite mold should be appropriately protected during quenching and heating. Vacuum furnace, salt bath furnace and furnace with special atmosphere should be used as far as possible.

2)When the graphite mould is quenched and heated, the appropriate cooling medium should be selected. The cooling medium used for a long time should be regularly filtered or replaced.
