Graphite mould has been coated with hardened film since 1980s. At present, nitriding, carburizing, and hardened film deposition are widely used in graphite mold manufacturing.

Carburizing of graphite mould is to improve the overall strength and toughness of graphite die. This will make the working surface of graphite mold have high strength and wear resistance. At present, CVD and PVD is the most mature technology of hardened film deposition.

Under the current technical conditions, the cost of hardened film deposition technology (mainly equipment) is high. Therefore, hardened film deposition technology is still only used in some precision, long-life graphite molds. If the heat treatment center is established, the cost of coating hardened film will be greatly reduced. If it’s used for more graphite molds, the manufacturing level of graphite molds in our country can be improved as a whole.
