Carbon felt is a felt-like carbonaceous material composed of carbon fiber. As the raw materials are different, they are divided into polyacrylonitrile based carbon felt and viscose-based carbon felt.
Viscose-based carbon felt:
1. Firstly, we cut the long filament bundle of viscose fiber into 7~10mm short fiber.Then we use a hair-combing machine to make it smooth. Finally, we obtain a thick 10~30mm original viscose-based felt by means of a needle-punching machine.
2. Put the viscose-based felt into the high temperature furnace, then inject inert gas or make it to be vacuum. Then the viscose-based felt can be obtained by heating up from room temperature to 1000℃ at the rate of 15~100℃/h.
Polyacrylonitrile based carbon felt:
1. Preoxidation:The polyacrylonitrile filament bundle is cut into 6~8mm short fiber, and the polyacrylonitrile base felt is made according to the first production method of viscose-based felt. The oxidation treatment is performed in an atmosphere containing oxygen at 180~240℃ for 24~48h, and then the white raw felt become black preoxidized felt.
2. Then we follow the second method of carbonization of viscose-based felt. The carbonization rate is 30~300℃/h, and then the acrylonitrile-based carbon felt can be obtained by heating up from room temperature to 1000°C and then cooling down to room temperature.
