At present, the carbon fiber used as insulation material is also divided into viscose-based carbon fiber, polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber, and asphalt-based carbon fiber.
The polyacrylonitrile-based raw material is cheap and the production process is simple, so many domestic enterprises are using polyacrylonitrile-based carbon felt. However, polyacrylonitrile-based carbon felts become brittle after high temperature treatment, and break fiber chips are easy to be produced. Fiber chips are harmful to the environment of the furnace and human health. So foreign companies rarely use polyacrylonitrile-based carbon felt.
The viscose-based carbon fiber is not easily graphitized in the process of high temperature treatment, so there is little heat transfer through the solid. Under the same conditions, the insulation effect of viscose-based carbon fiber is also the best of the three materials. However, the yield of carbon in the production of viscose-based carbon fiber is relatively low. Even 10kg viscose-based carbon fiber raw silk can only produce 1kg viscose-based carbon fiber. So additives are needed to improve the carbon yield. This also produces residues of other elements. But many companies have been able to make purity high.
Asphalt-based carbon fibers are easily graphitized, so the purity can be improved very well.
