Graphite Mold for Hot Bending Glass

Release time: 2020-01-27

This article will briefly introduce why the graphite mold can be applied to the hot bending glass industry. A new type of glass-making technology has emerged in modern times. This technology is widely used in the electronics screen industry, such as, TV screen, mobile screen, tablet screen, monitor screen, and laptop screen.

When producing hot bending glass, the glass should be liquefied by high temperature. The softening point of the glass is about 600°C. But only when the temperature reaches 1500~2000°C, the glass can be liquefied. The melting point of steel is 1535°C, so it is impossible to use the steel mold. The melting point of tungsten is 3410°C. But the cost of the mold produced by tungsten is very high, so we need to seek more reasonable materials.

Graphite stands out for its suitable physicochemical properties. Graphite has high hardness, good electrical conductivity, radiation resistance, corrosion resistance, good thermal conductivity, low cost and high temperature resistance. In contrast to metal properties, graphite becomes stiffer when the temperature rises. So that there is no problem of deformation. Therefore, graphite can greatly reduce the production cost and the difficult problems in the manufacturing process. In addition, the processing difficulty of the hot bending glass die is greatly reduced too.
