Factors Affecting Gasification Reaction of Graphite Materials

Release time: 2020-02-24

Graphitization: As its graphitization increases, the gas activity of carbon materials  decreases. The higher the final heat treatment temperature of carbon materials is, the higher the temperature of the initial oxidation will be. So the graphite product has a higher oxidation temperature than the carbon product.

State of StructureLoose surface and porous carbon materials are easy to react with gas. For example, pyrolytic graphite with dense surface is oxidized at 850℃ in air after 3200°C heat treatment, whereas the charcoal with porous surface starts to burn at 360℃.

Catalytic action of impuritiesThe impurities contained in carbon materials have a great influence on the gasification reaction. For example, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, manganese and so on are catalysts for oxidation of graphite materials, while impurities such as boron, titanium and tungsten have the effect of inhibiting oxidation. Alkali metals and transition metals have great catalytic effect on any gasification reaction of carbon materials.
