The graphite raw material was placed in a soft mold during isostatic pressing. The liquid outside the soft mold acts on the mold at the same pressure. Meanwhile, the pressure passes to the graphite raw material. The pressure makes the graphite raw material dense from the surrounding to the center. In this process, the movement of graphite particles is mainly translational.
Because the forces in each direction are equal, the graphite particles do not rotate. The graphite particles are in disorder state when loading. Graphite particles are still in a disordered state after compaction. Therefore, isostatic graphite does not show regular layered distribution structure.
The microstructure of isostatic graphite products is homogeneous, that is, isotropic.
