Lubrication of Graphite

Release time: 2020-12-24

The reason why graphite materials can play a self-lubricating role is mainly due to the weak adhesion between the layers of graphite and the ease of relative sliding.

When graphite forms a thin graphite layer on the metal surface, it becomes the friction between graphite and graphite.

In the presence of water and air, the graphite face absorbs water and gas molecules, which increases the distance between layers and weakens the interlayer gravity. Meanwhile, water and gas molecules occupy the position of free bond at the edge of graphite. The above two factors make the two friction surfaces of graphite not easy to adhere together.
