Principle of hardness testing of graphiteis is different from that of metal. In special graphite industry, the general test standard of hardness is measurement method of Shaw Hardness.

Because graphite has higher hardness, the tool loss of machining graphite will be slightly larger than that of machining metal. However, graphite materials with high hardness have excellent control of discharge loss.

However, due to the layered structure of graphite, it has superior cutting performance in the cutting process. The cutting force is only about 1/3 of the copper material, and the machined surface is easy to be treated.
