The self-lubricity of graphite depends on the presence of air and water.

As a lubricating material, the critical value of moisture in the working environment is 5 g/m³. If the value is less than 5 g/m3, the friction coefficient of graphite products will increase.

Under the air environment of 300~400℃, the strong oxidation resistance will increase the friction coefficient of graphite. Nevertheless, graphite can also maintain good wear resistance at 300~1000℃ in neutral or reducing media.
