Why does graphite need to be polished?

Due to the different selection of cutting tools, the surface roughness of the processed graphite is also different.

Some special graphite workpiece, such as the graphite crucible used for melting gold, all need to be polished. Due to the different roughness of the crucible surface, some molten gold will stick to the graphite after cooling, which is not easy to fall off, resulting in the loss of gold.

So polishing the surface of graphite parts is sometimes necessary.
