The ladder-like fracture of pyrolytic carbon matrix is beneficial to improve the tenacity of CFC. The ladder-like fracture originates from the secondary interface between pyrolytic carbon sheets.

The above situation also provides theoretical guidance for improving the tenacity of CFC. We also tested the interfacial binding strength of the felt-based CFC using interfacial microdebonding technique.

If the modulus of carbon fiber is high, the corresponding interfacial binding strength of CFC is high. Otherwise, the smooth fiber surface has low interfacial binding strength.
