Because the thermal expansion coefficient of matrix carbon in CFC is greater than that of carbon fiber, the type of matrix carbon is bound to affect the overall thermal properties of the material.
We have studied the thermal expansion coefficients of the three species, ISO, SL, and RL, used for the CFC. We find that the thermal expansion coefficient of these three pyrolytic carbons also increases with the temperature increase within 1500℃.
We propose that high-heat treatment reduces the thermal expansion coefficient of CFC.
