We investigate the effect of the microstructure of the carbon matrix on the thermal expansion coefficient of the CFC.

Regarding the microstructure of the three pyrolytic carbons for CFC, we found micropores in ISO, cracks in SL, and minor defects in RL.

This structural difference leads to the thermal expansion coefficient of a_m(RL)> a_m(ISO)> a_m(SL) pattern in the CFC.
