Antioxidant Properties of the CFC with Boron Carbide Additions

CFC is manufactured by adding boron carbide to the needle-punched integral carbon fiber felt, with additional densification by chemical vapor infiltration and resin impregnation-carbonization.

 

At 600~900℃, not only the structural integrity of CFC is improved, but also B2O3 protective films or protective clusters are formed to cover the surfaces of CFC or bare carbon fibers during the oxidation process.

 

The above conditions effectively slow down the oxidation of the matrix or fibers, thereby significantly improving the overall antioxidant capacity of CFC.
