Properties of Fibers Used in CFC

In general, high modulus carbon fibers used for CFC are highly graphitized and have better axial crystal arrangement when treated at high temperature.

 

The above conditions are beneficial to improve the density and thermal conductivity of CFC, reduce the coefficient of thermal expansion, and thus improve the ablative performance.

 

The following conditions can affect the final performance of CFC. For example, carbon fiber is a brittle polycrystalline polyphase material. There are often micro-cracks, micro-pores and other defects in the fiber, and the surface is easy to have filaments, pits.
