The combination between coating and CFC matrix is good, and the thermal expansion coefficient between them matches.

When CFC is subjected to thermal shock during service, the thermal mismatch between coating and substrate will cause great thermal stress.

If the interfacial binding between coating and CFC matrix is weak or the thermal expansion coefficient difference is too large, the coating is easy to crack or even spalling.
