Regarding the thermal expansion coefficient of CFC and common heat-resistant ceramic materials, we can see that the thermal expansion coefficient of SiC or Si₃N₄ is close to that of CFC compared with other heat-resistant materials.

The thermal expansion coefficient of SiC and CFC matrix is similar, and the SiO₂ protective film formed after oxidation has the advantages of low oxygen diffusion coefficient, good self-healing performance, and low vapor pressure below 1600℃.

It makes SiC based ceramic coating the preferred material for the oxidation resistance coating of CFC below 1600℃.
