The coefficient of thermal expansion between Ir and CFC (aIr≈6.5x10^-6/K; aCFC≈1.0x10^-6/K) is quite different.

The mismatch of thermal expansion coefficient between Ir and CFC is the key problem in the application of Ir as high temperature antioxidant coating.

The residual stress generated during the preparation and use of the coating may induce its cracking and lead to the failure of the protective coating of CFC.
