The Relationship between Silicide Ceramics and CFC

At present, the most mature single phase antioxidant ceramic coating for CFC is SiC.

 

Silicides that are partially available for CFC, such as WSi2, MoSi2 and TaSi2, can also react with oxygen to form SiO2 at high temperatures.

 

However, due to the great difference between the thermal expansion coefficient of silicide ceramics and CFC, the coating is easy to crack in the alternating process of high and low temperature. The crack provides a channel for oxygen diffusion to the matrix of CFC, which is not conducive to the oxidation resistance of the coating, so the silicide ceramics are not suitable for use as a coating alone.
