Silicon Based Ceramic Coating for CFC

The oxidation resistance mechanism of silica-based ceramic materials is the synthesis of silica-based ceramic compound coating on the surface of CFC.

 

Silicide in silica-based ceramic materials reacts with oxygen to form SiO, which fills cracks and other defects in the CFC coating on the one hand, and acts as a sealing substance to block oxygen infiltration on the other hand.

 

Because the oxygen diffusion coefficient of SiO2 is very low [10-13g/(cm˙s) at 1200, 10-11g/(cm˙s) at 2200], it can effectively provide oxidation protection for CFC.
