This SiC/Ta₂O₅ coating system for CFC has excellent ablation resistance.

After oxyacetylene ablation for 90 seconds, the SiC/Ta₂O₅ coating reduces the linear and mass ablation rates of CFC samples by 50% and 30%, respectively.
