A ZrB₂-SiC-ZrC gradient coating was successfully fabricated on CFC substrates, as well as on CFC pre-coated with SiC, by a combined process of PSC and RMI.  

The coated CFC was then subjected to oxyacetylene-flame ablation for 120 seconds.  

After ablation, the ZrB₂- SiC-ZrC gradient coating on the CFC surface remained structurally intact and crack-free, exhibiting a mass ablation rate of only -0.016mg/s.
