A dense coating can isolate the CFC substrate from oxygen-bearing atmospheres.  

Theoretically, an ideal coating should afford long-term, effective protection to the CFC.  

Nevertheless, the intrinsic physicochemical incompatibility between the coating and the CFC has yet to be conclusively resolved.
